First Aid in the Army Cadets

First Aid in the Army Cadet Force is carried out under licence from St John Ambulance. First Aid was introduced to the ACF in 1962 as part of Duke of Edinburgh Award training, it was then further intoduced into the ACF Cadet in the Community syllabus as an optional activity and fully intregated into the syllabus as a core subject in 1999.

1 Star Cadets: Cadets who join during their first year are taught Casaid which is a basic knowledge of how to respond to an incident call for help and give emergency treatment.
Cadets are now also taught in their first year "Heart Start" in conjuction with the British Heart Foundation, they are taught how to carry out CPR and deal with a victim with a heart problem.
2 Star Cadets: Cadets who pass their 1 Star Certificate then move on to attain their Young Lifesaver Plus Certificate, this is a in depth course carried out over 2 full days either at Caw Camp Londonderry or the Cadet Training Centre Magilligan.
3 Star Cadets: Although not formallly taught at 3 Star level, much more emphases is put on dealing with an accident scene in a senario based lesson, learning all about the command and control element.
4 Star Cadets: A senior cadet is taught as a progressive subject as part of their 4 Star, the Lifesaver Plus Certificate, this is a qualifaction regonised by employers. This is also used as part of the BTEC which will help towartds gaining a higher grade.
Adult Training
Lifesaver Plus: The first course all ACF adult must complete is the Lifesaver Plus course which not only allows them to treat any injured personel but allows them to teach First Aid up to 2 Star standard (Lifesaver) using the teaching skills taught as an Adult Instructor
First Aid at Work: Is taught as a more advanced course which will cover all aspects of First Aid in the Work place
Advanced First Aid: This is taught at the National Cadet Training Centre, Frimley Park and completeing this course allows you to take a step nearer becoming a First Aid Trainer.
First Aid Trainer: This is a course run at Frimley Park where adults are assessed and trained to become First Aid Trainers within the ACF, this will allow them to organise courses up to and including First Aid at Work courses.
First Aid Competitions
Competitions are run annunally by the First Aid Panel of the ACFA NI, each ACF battalion, Combined Cadet Force, Sea Cadets and Air Training Corps are invited to enter teams. Eglinton Troop have won the NI Regional Finals in 2003 & 2004 and acheived Silver and Bronze Medals in the National Competition at Sandhurst, England in 2003 and 2004.
